The The Sam Houston Chapter of the Texas Association for Play Therapy meets six times annually. We also have a winter workshop, a full day training, each January. Mental Health providers and graduate students in training are welcome to attend. Each general meeting offers one continuing education unit. The winter workshop offers six continuing education units. SHAPT is an approved provider in Texas for licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, and registered play therapists. Our calendar of meetings is below.

Currently, all meetings are held at the Cypress-Fairbanks Instructional Support Center located at 10300 Jones Rd, Suite 714, Houston, TX 77065. All regular meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and usually end at about 8:15 p.m. For a map to meetings, click here.

 
February 2, 2008 SATURDAY, FULL-DAY:
ANNUAL WINTER WORKSHOP (6 CEU's) Loretta Gallo-Lopez will present on dramatic play therapy (a.m.) and play therapy with adolescents (p.m.). This workshop will be at the Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress, Cypress, TX, 77433. See the home page for the registration form after December 1, 2007.

March 7, 2008:
Karen Sullivan, LMSW, RPT, children’s therapist at the Children’s Assessment Center, will present on play therapy with sexually abused children.

May 9, 2008:
Julie Burden, Sally Creed, Judi Gilbert, Cindy Hammonds, Gabe Lomas, and Robert Schindler will address intake issues in play therapy for those in private practice. They will address:
1) Child/Adolescent Intake/Social History forms, 2) Play Therapy Assessment/Evaluation 3) Treatment Plans, 4) Boundaries: Balancing the need to communicate with parents with the child's therapy time and the child's need for confidentiality, Handling phone calls outside of office and session hours 5) Other issues raised by audience

SHAPT recesses in the summer and begins our new fiscal year in August. SHAPT has an annual dinner meeting each August in which new officers are introduced.
